Early Years Foundation (Nursery & Reception)

Our Early Years Foundation Stage consists of our Nursery and Reception Classes.

“Progress through the Nursery and Reception classes is good because the teachers provide children with a range of stimulating activities within the bright and attractive setting.” (Ofsted, April 2012)

We provide children with a range of play based learning experiences indoors and outdoors that ensure children develop across the seven key areas of learning.

These are divided into three ‘Prime Areas’:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development and four ‘Specific Areas’
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We have recently just spent a great amount of time and money on developing our outdoor areas to ensure children have the same high quality provision as indoors.

Stay and Play Parent Feedback

We asked our parents what they thought of the Stay and Play session in class and this is what they had to say:

“Really enjoyed seeing what the children do in Reception class. It gives me peace of mind, really enjoyable.”
“It was brilliant to see how my child learns and interacts with others, I look forward to the next one.”
“Love the child directed learning opportunities – Fantastic staff and child relationships.”
“Thanks for letting us come and see the children in class, it was interesting to see how they interact with the other children and what games they use to learn.”
“I have really enjoyed today watching and playing with my daughter. It helps parents understand what goes on in Reception and what the children do, we can then do some of the activities at home. The Cheerios was a brilliant idea!”

The Reception children’s visit to Kirkby Christian Fellowship

Panda, Koala and some children from the Robin’s class went to visit Kirkby Christian Fellowship to find out why we celebrate Easter. Upon our arrival the children were greeted by some friendly faces and began the celebration by singing some songs accompanied by a live band including one of our teaching assistants on the guitar!

The children split into groups and shared a simple meal of bread and apples dipped in honey and drank blackcurrant juice to represent the last supper Jesus shared with his friends before he died.

After this we all got back together and the children were told the rest of the Easter story before going into groups to make their own Easter gardens which they were able to take home.

We finished the morning with some more singing and a special surprise of a chocolate Easter bunny.   We all had a wonderful time and the children really enjoyed the experience.
